Smart metering without the replacement assumption

Do we have to replace our existing meters?

Not if they expose a reliable supported output and remain fit for the intended use. The survey classifies every meter before retrofit or replacement is proposed.

Which utilities can Volts meter?

Electricity, water, gas, thermal and environmental inputs are supported. Compatibility is confirmed per device, not only per utility label.

How do readings travel from basements or remote sites?

The project can use wired, LoRaWAN, , cellular or Ethernet connections. A coverage and power test determines the suitable path for each location.

What replaces the manual meter round?

Timestamped automatic readings, metering-health monitoring and an exception list replace routine transcription. A physical visit remains necessary for installation, verification, statutory checks and faults that cannot be diagnosed remotely.

Who uses the data day to day?

Facilities use device health and exceptions; property and finance teams use approved readings for allocation and billing; owners and energy teams use portfolio performance and reporting. Permissions keep each role within its scope.

How often are readings collected?

Reading interval depends on the meter, the connection and the site. Live operations and billing do not necessarily use the same frequency.

Are the meters legally suitable for tenant billing?

Billing suitability depends on the metrology rules that apply to the site and the contract. Operational monitoring alone does not make a meter legally valid for re-billing.

What happens when data is missing?

Most gaps close themselves. Volts devices hold their readings in onboard memory and send the backlog once the connection returns, so a network outage does not become a hole in the data. Where a reading is genuinely lost, an interpolated value fills the series and stays marked as interpolated - it never passes as a measured reading in billing or reporting.
